A studio portrait of an unidentified African American woman standing by a concrete wall with her left side to the photographer. She smiles as she holds a closed fan in her left hand. She wears a barrette in her hair, a scarf secured with a brooch and a choker necklace around her neck, a long, lace-sleeved blouse with heart appliques under a tight buttoned vest, a skirt that matches the vest with layered ruffles of lace from above the knee to the floor. The back is pleated and has a large bow. She wears a corsage of pansies on her left shoulder. Below the picture on the paperboard is printed, "McLeod, Atchison, Kas."
