Buckwheat Zydeco, an African American male zydeco accordion player and singer, plays an accordion and sings into a microphone on a stage with five other African American zydeco instrumentalists or an electric bass guitar, a rubboard, two electric guitarists, and a drummer. Partially out of the photograph, a sign at the back of the stage above their heads reads, "Grand Emporium in Kansas City, Missouri." Printed on a label included with the photograph, "Buckwheat Zydeco March '87."
