A studio portrait of a smiling unidentified African American barefoot man in primitive attire, perhaps Zulu. He carries a club up in his right hand and holds a shield over a spear upright on the ground in his left hand. His hair is fashioned in vertical feathers. He wears a necklace of a leather strand with beads across the front. His navel is distended. He wears a loincloth of feathers in front and a leather breechcloth in the back.
