The Environs Plan study group office, occupying a former Ramona Hills residence, stands next to a demolished house. Because of severity of the area's aircraft noise problem, the airport bought the neighborhood's 110 homes and is relocating its residents. Eventually, the entire neighborhood will be leveled. How the cleared land will be used has not been decided.

Woman killed: Elizabeth Maxwell, 22, died in the explosion of this house at 4920 N. Hanley Road, Berkeley, Tuesday. Mrs. Maxwell, who was eight months pregnant, apparently was overcome by the smoke after the explosion. Authorities said the explosion was apparently caused by leaking gas. Story on 6A.

This Berkeley house has a new roof because of a case of mistaken identity. The back porch also was removed and two large trees were cut down at the wrong address before the contractor was ordered off the job by Berkeley officials. David Harting figures he did the city a favor with his accident. He added a few years to the life of the house, which was scheduled for demolition.

Big Bat for a Big Hitter
Image shows Mike Umfleet, a member of Ballwin's American Legion World Series champions shows his father, Bob, one of the teams coaches, and his sister, Sandy, the bat awarded to the St. Louis County team by the American Legion officials. A similar bat which is over six feet long and weighs about 70 pounds was awarded to each of the regional champions at the tournament in Memphis.
Black Jack Fire
Image shows firemen fighting a fire at the Black Jack home of Forest L. Hartley and his wife, Ann at 12361 Jeffries Lane. The fire was said to have started by an explosion in the garage and caused an estimated $25,000 in damage. Hartley and his wife as well as the firemen escaped unharmed.

Blind Concordia Seminary Graduate
The first blind student to attend Concordia Seminary, David Andrus, will receive his M.A. at the 146th commencement on May 24th. He completed 4 years training to be a pastor in a Lutheran Church. Andrus has been an honor student during his study program at Concordia, with one year spent in Mt. Prospect, Ill., as a vicar of a congregation. Besides those achievements, he is the inventor of a speech device for home computers to aid the blind. He also repairs cars and builds furniture.

Boatmen's Bank Building
Going up: Construction has started on Boatmen's Bank Building at 7800 Forsyth Blvd. in Clayton. The building will house the main offices of Boatmen's Bank of St. Louis County (formerly Metro Bank/Clayton), and Boatmen's Trust Co. (formerly Metro Trust Co.). Boatmen's will occupy the first four floors or about one-half of the building which is being developed by Bakewell Corp.

Bolivar Public Square
The Courthouse and the Bolivar public square will be centers of activity when an expected crowd of 50,000 visitors pours into the little town. The reviewing stands, where the Presidents of the United States and Venezuela will witness an imposing parade, is to be in front of the courthouse steps.
Bonne Terre Assembly Hall
The building shown was built in 1908 by St. Joseph Lead Company to house a YMCA, company store and “assembly” hall. The YMCA and Company store later became the home of the Engineering and Accounting Departments for St. Joe. A part of the Company Store was converted to a bowling alley, but the Assembly Hall remains. Today it is know as the Heritage Hall Ballroom.
