Description
The ten finalists stand on stage during the Miss America Preliminary Contest, for Miss Raytown 1973, held at Raytown South High School in Raytown, Missouri. The dress of Diane Swift is visible farthest to the left of the photograph of which is a white, long-sleeved blouse with small ruffles around the scoop-neckline and the cuffs and a empire waist black skirt with a white snowflake pattern in squares. To her left is Jolene D. Steve (15) who wears a sky blue, sleeveless, jewel neck evening gown with a jeweled inset waistband and a ball gown skirt. To her left is Dell Ann Smith (18) who wears a deep peach colored evening gown with cap sleeves, a large ruffle around the jewel neck collar, and an empire waistline. To her left, Constance Pickett (6), wears a yellow, long-sleeved, v-neck evening gown with a translucent floral overlay of yellow, orange, and purple. To her left, Gwendolyn Kay Norton wears a long-puffed-sleeved, square-neck evening gown with a white bodice with yellow daisy centers in a row at the top and bottom of the bodice down the center of the bodice as well as around the cuffs and two rows of daisies around the bottom of the yellow skirt. She wears a headband. To her left, Janice E. Murray wears an aqua, long-sleeved, turtleneck evening gown with floral ruffles outlining the keyhole bodice, empire waistline, collar, and cuffs. To her left, Bonnie Kay Hall looks to her right as she wears a white, sleeveless crew-neck evening gown with a pink lining under the bodice of white lace. The inset empire waistband is a pink satin ribbon tied in a bow at the base of the bodice. To her left, Candis Blythe Culberson wears a white, long-sleeved, turtleneck evening gown with a lace bodice, an empire waistline, and bell cuffs. To her left, Carla Jill Cathlina wears a turquoise, long-sleeved, scoop-neck evening gown with white lace around the waistband and the cuffs. To her left, Vicki Lou Bennett wears light pink, sleeveless, v-neck evening gown with a shiny satin pink bow at the bottom of the bodice, a pleated skirt, a pink hair ribbon on the back of her head. All contestants wear their blue and white contestant number ribbons attached to their dresses on their left hips.
