Contestants 23 through 21 stand on stage in evening gowns during the Miss America Preliminary Contest, for Miss Raytown 1973 held at Raytown South High School in Raytown, Missouri. Farthest to the left, Gwendolyn Kay Norton (23) wears a long-puffed-sleeved, square-neck evening gown with a white bodice with yellow daisy centers in a row at the top and bottom of the bodice down the center of the bodice as well as around the cuffs and two rows of daisies around the bottom of the yellow skirt. She wears a headband. To her left, Judith Holliger (22), wears a mint green, empire waist, sleeveless, turtleneck evening gown with white bric-a-brac with green flowers down the center of the bric-a-brac around the collar and in three vertical stripes on the bodice. To her left, Carla Jill Cathlina (21) wears a turquoise, long-sleeved, scoop-neck evening gown with white lace around the waistband and the cuffs. All contestants wear their blue and white contestant number ribbons attached to their gowns on their left hips.
